Marie-Claude Hemming

Marie-Claude Hemming

Director of Operations, Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA)
Marie-Claude is a force to be reckoned with. She joined CECA in 2012 and tasked with developing CECA's public affairs and policy output, quickly found her feet. She is able to do award winning wonders with limited resources, always finding opportunities to strengthen CECA's brand and member offering, growing a small team to support this. She is a complete self-starter, using her experience in communications to take on historically challenging policy problems changing construction for the better. She currently leads two cross-industry workstreams addressing issues surrounding late payment within our industry and onerous clauses in contracts. Marie-Claude is extremely methodological in her approach, relying heavily on building relationships with members and staff, stakeholder organisations, politicians, civil servants and the media. She always understands what each person needs from her, her team and the organisation. Her approach continues to ensure that CECA is recognised as a leading trade body within the construction sector. She is an independent thinker, who is not afraid to challenge established business practice and encourages her team and others to always do so. In leading by example, she inspires her team and colleagues to showcase the areas where CECA is leading the policy debate, highlight its work and address any negative feedback. By being trusting, open, approachable and always keen to share information, Marie-Claude has nurtured an environment which enables her team to thrive and manage their workloads as individuals with support from herself when needed. While generally operating at a senior level, she is not afraid of getting stuck in. The last year has seen her painting walls, cleaning skirting boards and organising office socials!! Outside of work, she is Vice Chair of the Construction and Property Special Interest Group at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and mentors a younger colleague working in public affairs.
