Case Study: Royal College of Music
The Project
The aim of the project was to create dynamic new spaces and cutting-edge facilities, that will provide an inspirational environment in which their students can create, research, and perform music.
The project entails many new spaces including a new open public space, including a café bar and restaurant, performing spaces and a new Royal College of Music Museum.
The Product
Surespan design and manufactured three 2000mm x 1000mm HIAC Recessed Floor Hatches. These hatches are in the courtyard near the newly built café bar. The floor hatches were connected to a smoke vent system below, so in the event of a fire, the smoke vents located in the plant room open below and the floor hatches open automatically, to allow smoke out of the plant room, creating an escape route from inside of the building.
Features:
The hatches supplied feature a 1-hour fire rating as well as a 48 dB sound rating. In this project, the sound rating was an important feature to help prevent any disruption from sound leakage in the courtyard.
