UK CONSTRUCTION WEEK ANNOUNCES PIONEERING PARTNERSHIP WITH CODE FOR CONSTRUCTION PRODUCT INFORMATION

UK CONSTRUCTION WEEK ANNOUNCES PIONEERING PARTNERSHIP WITH CODE FOR CONSTRUCTION PRODUCT INFORMATION

An exciting new partnership between UK Construction Week (UKCW) and CPI Ltd, the independently governed not-for-profit organisation, responsible for the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI) has been announced, which will debut at the London show in May.  The partnership is born out of a joint ambition to see culture change across the built environment sector by improving quality and moving towards a greater transparency of available product information and higher standards of marketing practices.

The conference programme at UKCW will focus on growth and how the industry can meet government targets in key areas such as housebuilding and net zero. At the centre of this must be a focus on safety and quality, ushering in a new era of transformational change for the UK’s built environment.

Amanda Long

CPI Ltd Chief Executive Amanda Long will be at UK Construction Week discussing how we can support building safety with CCPI. With vital information for manufacturers, merchants and distributors, contractors, clients, architects and all product users, London show visitors will be able to learn about how their business can benefit from participating in the CCPI community.

The CCPI was created ‘to promote an urgent and positive culture and behaviour change’ in the way the construction product manufacturing industry manages and provides information and marketing on their products.

It was initiated by the Construction Product Association (CPA) as a direct response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety set up in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.  Following this CPI Ltd was set-up to guard the Code and manage independent assessment.

High-profile demand-side supporters of CCPI include BAM, Barratt Developments PLC, Bellway Homes, Berkeley Homes PLC, Mace Group, Morgan Sindall Group, Murphy, Persimmon Homes and Sir Robert McAlpine PLC, Skanska UK. Each has signed a pledge to encourage strategic suppliers and manufacturers that supply them to engage with CCPI and have product sets CCPI assessed within the next three years.

There are currently over 100 product sets which are carrying the CCPI assessed mark, showing they meet the standards of its code. Products can carry the CCPI assessed status for two years before the need to be reassessed.

UKCW audience

Visitors to UKCW London will be able to join a panel discussion entitled Time to step up to reform: What's critical for construction product manufacturers to secure their future in the industry?

Confirmed panellists so far are:

  • Amanda Long , Chief Executive at the Code for Construction Product Information
  • A senior representative from the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) – the UK’s regulator for construction products and most consumer goods. You will be able to hear how OPSS are helping to protect people and places from product-related harm, by enforcing construction products requirements.
  •  A senior representative from a major contractor/developer CCPI Demand-Side Supporter

Amanda Long , Chief Executive at the Code for Construction Product Information, commented: “The CCPI’s mission is to drive a transformational step-change in product information management and marketing across the built environment; our aim is to move the industry to a place where product information is clear, accurate, accessible, up to date and unambiguous”.

“UK Construction Week is the ideal forum for us to talk about the CCPI; it’s a show which brings together the two distinct audiences who can help to raise product information standards - the demand-side supporters, and the manufacturers and suppliers.”

Neil Gaisford, Divisional Director, Construction, added: “This exciting new partnership with the Code for Construction Product Information ensures that building safety and improved quality are once again front and centre at UKCW.

“It was born out of a joint ambition to see culture change across the built environment sector by improving quality and moving towards a greater transparency of available product information.

“The CCPI brings with it not only a prestigious roster of construction companies, but invaluable insight into the scheme and how it will help to shape the future of procurement, raise standards in product information and marketing for the sector.”
